Scrumwise was founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Esben Krag Hansen. He was formerly the Chief Architect at both Zmags and Kapow Technologies. The full public launch of the application, however, wasn't until 2012. According to Mr. Hansen, Scrumwise is meant "to be simple, but still hopefully cover all of the common usage scenarios in Scrum, except the very high-end ones." Because of its very specific target market, Scrumwise has received little general media coverage although it has had favorable mentions in specific forums.

Scrumwise is designed to make Scrum management simple and accessible. As such, it cannot handle the highest end development projects and the company managers state that clearly. It is for widespread, massive easy use by a large number of teams. The team has made it more basic and simple to user than many other Scrum tools.

Scrumwise requires thorough knowledge of software or application development to use. To laymen, or people trying to learn the basics of software development, Scrumwise would be of little to no use. For experienced developers and teams, the relative simplicity of Scrumwise can speed up software development by facilitating incremental development. The app can be first used within seconds of accessing the main page. Users don't even need to register.
